Continental Tyre celebrates BMW X3’s victory

Continental Tyre Of South Africa (CTSA) extends its congratulations to BMW Group South Africa following the BMW X3 being named the 2025 South African Car of the Year. The luxury sports activity vehicle is produced at BMW Group Plant Rosslyn in Pretoria and exported to several key regions, including South Africa, Europe, the United Kingdom and Canada.

As one of BMW SA’s long-standing partners, Continental supplies approximately 50 percent share of business (SOB) for the tyres fitted to the locally produced X3 models. Tyres are sourced from Continental’s global production network, including its Lousado (Portugal), Puchov (Slovakia) and Korbach (Germany) plants.

Continental provides eight different tyre sizes for the X3 range, covering both internal-combustion and plug-in hybrid electric variants of the current G45 generation, which entered production in 2024. The fitment portfolio includes the premium EcoContact 6 Q* and SportContact 7* ranges, engineered to deliver exceptional safety, efficiency and driving dynamics consistent with BMW’s performance standards.

Continental is the exclusive supplier of the 20-inch SportContact 7 high-performance tyres fitted to selected X3 derivatives. Each tyre carries BMW’s distinctive “*” marking, signifying original-equipment approval and alignment with the manufacturer’s demanding ride and handling specifications.

“BMW’s success in the 2025 South African Car of the Year Awards is a proud moment for the local automotive industry,” says Dustine Gascoyne, Market Manager at Continental Tyre South Africa. “Continental is honoured to support BMW Group South Africa through our continued partnership, supplying tyres that complement the X3’s hallmark blend of comfort, agility and safety.”

Continental first began supplying tyres to BMW SA in 2018 for the previous-generation G01 X3 and has since expanded its offering in line with the model’s evolution.
