MIDRAND, October 15, 2025 – Leapmotor International has arrived in South Africa with its first electric vehicle that bridges the gap between full electric cars and more traditional hybrids. The Leapmotor C10 REEV is a premium family SUV providing all the benefits of electric commuting while allowing practical long-distance electric touring.

The Leapmotor C10 REEV is a family SUV offering premium comfort and safety features with all the innovation and benefits of a pure Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and none of their limitations thanks to the Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) model offered to local buyers.
While the Leapmotor C10 always operates in electric mode, it doesn’t require charging infrastructure because it uses it’s efficient 1.5-litre petrol engine as a generator to maintain range whatever the driving circumstances. It allows owners to commute 145km between charges, but offers a combined driving range of 970km with generator assistance.
This is the ideal EV solution for long-distance South African conditions where the daily commute is interspersed with spread out destinations, removing range anxiety.
The Leapmotor C10 REEV has a rear electric drive unit producing 158kW and 320Nm. With DC fast charging to provide 50% charge in 18 minutes or up to 80% in half an hour, remaining in EV mode is a practical reality. AC charging overnight can provide a full charge in approximately five hours.
Using a 1.5-litre petrol engine that runs at optimal RPM for efficient battery charging allows the Leapmotor C10 to always operate in EV mode, but extend range up to 970km when travelling long distances such as inter-provincial holidays or those busy working days. The engine engages only when battery levels are low or the driver selects “extended range” mode but never provides propulsion.
What does this mean for everyday driving? Rear wheel drive architecture ensures natural balance, strong traction, and a premium SUV feel while allowing 0-100km/h acceleration of 8,5 seconds. With Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom driving modes adapting throttle, regenerative braking, and steering feel, there’s a mode to suit every mood. And, of course, it’s always super-refined and quiet.
The comprehensive suite of safety features includes seven airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors and Autonomous Emergency Braking that detects cars, pedestrians, and cyclists. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering and Lane Departure Warning offer convenient driver assistance and Driver Monitoring uses camera technology to check for drowsiness or distraction.
Of course, the Leapmotor C10 styling reflects both aerodynamic efficiency and premium appeal, ensuring modern, upscale presence on the road. Flush door handles, 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels depending on the trim and Adaptive LED headlights reflect the C10’s innovative underpinnings.
