Music is a universal language that connects people, evokes emotion, and tells powerful stories through the eyes of its creators. In celebration of this and in a continued effort to grow, honour, and empower songwriters, CAPASSO, in partnership with Ukhozi FM, is proud to announce an upcoming Songwriting Workshop in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
CAPASSO and Ukhozi FM are set to host an engaging and informative workshop designed to equip songwriters with essential industry knowledge. The session will focus on the importance of writing music in indigenous languages, understanding mechanical royalties, and unpacking the roles and structures of both CAPASSO and Ukhozi FM within the South African music industry.

The workshop will take place at the SABC studios in Durban, home to Ukhozi FM, from 09:00 to 13:00. Attendees can expect insightful discussions, practical knowledge, and direct engagement with industry experts and some of South Africa’s most celebrated songwriters.
The programme will begin with an overview of CAPASSO and Ukhozi FM, exploring how both organisations support and contribute to the development of songwriting. This will be followed by a dynamic panel discussion featuring award-winning artists Sjava and Professor, alongside Ukhozi FM Music Compiler Zanda Mthembu and CAPASSO General Manager Operations Lerato Matsoso.
Through meaningful engagement with music creators and industry stakeholders, this workshop aims to educate, inspire, and empower songwriters to navigate the evolving music landscape—shaped increasingly by digital innovation and social media.
Ukhozi FM Business Manager, Lwazi Mthabela, shared:
“This workshop comes at an opportune time as we celebrate the Metro FM Music Awards in eThekwini—a moment where the nation honours the best in South African music. As Africa’s leading radio station, proudly broadcasting in isiZulu, Ukhozi FM remains committed to creating platforms that not only celebrate excellence but nurture it.
Through our partnership with CAPASSO, we aim to preserve storytelling in our own languages while empowering both emerging and established creators with the tools they need to succeed. We invite our listeners and the broader music community to join us for this impactful engagement.”
CAPASSO General Manager Operations, Lerato Matsoso, added:
“We are excited about this partnership with Africa’s biggest radio station to drive meaningful conversations around songwriting in indigenous languages. In a rapidly evolving music industry, one thing remains constant—audiences connect deeply with music that reflects their identity. Songs in our own languages have become timeless and continue to shape our cultural legacy.”
