Opel hits the road with Top Billing

There’s something about the return of Top Billing that feels like more than just a TV comeback. For over two decades, the show was a Sunday ritual for South Africans who dared to dream bigger, a window into the country’s most beautiful homes, the most exciting personalities, and the most breath-taking corners of a nation that never runs out of stories to tell. And now, after a long-awaited hiatus, it’s back.

But this season, it’s arriving in style. Opel South Africa, part of the global Stellantis group, has been announced as the Official Vehicle Partner for the new season of Top Billing, airing on S3 from Thursday, 30 April 2026 at 19:00.

It is, if you think about it, a perfectly natural pairing.

Two Brands. One Shared Vision.

On one side, you have Top Billing, a programme that has long operated as the aspirational heartbeat of South African lifestyle media. On the other, you have Opel: a brand with deep German engineering roots that has spent recent years quietly, deliberately repositioning itself as the vehicle of choice for a new generation of South African drivers who want design, practicality, and a sense of forward momentum in everything they do.

The vehicles taking centre stage this season are telling in themselves: the bold and characterful Mokka, the flagship Grandland SUV, and the beloved Corsa — three models that span a spectrum from urban chic to open-road ambition, each reflecting what Opel describes as a commitment to progressive design, German precision, and genuine everyday joy behind the wheel.

Throughout the season, Top Billing presenters will travel across South Africa in these vehicles, chasing stories of local talent, hidden destinations, and the kind of aspirational living that makes the show so compulsively watchable. And in a first that will delight both car enthusiasts and lifestyle lovers, a special international episode will be filmed at Opel’s headquarters in Germany, a move that anchors the partnership in something deeper than product placement. It’s about heritage, craftsmanship, and the story of a brand that has earned its place on South Africa’s roads.

Why This Partnership Makes Sense

“This partnership represents a strong alignment between Opel and a programme that has long set the benchmark for lifestyle and aspirational storytelling in South Africa,” says Thuto Mohlala, Brand Manager at Opel South Africa.

What Mohlala articulates is something the marketing world often aspires to but rarely achieves: authentic brand-audience fit. Top Billing‘s viewers are precisely the people Opel wants to speak to — aspirational, design-conscious South Africans who see their vehicles not as appliances but as expressions of identity and enablers of the life they’re building.

Within the broader Stellantis South Africa portfolio, Opel occupies a clear and deliberate position. South Africa is identified as a key growth market for the group, and the brand’s focus on accessible mobility and strong customer experience maps directly onto the ambitions of a rising middle class that wants more from their driving experience without compromising on quality or value.

“Partnering with Top Billing provides a powerful platform to showcase Opel vehicles not only as modes of transport, but as enablers of modern mobility and everyday success,” Mohlala adds. It’s a statement that cuts to the heart of what this collaboration represents: the idea that a great car doesn’t just take you from A to B — it changes how you experience the journey in between.

On Set and On the Road

From the production side, the excitement is equally palpable. Patience Stevens, Managing Director at Cardova Productions and Executive Producer of Top Billing, describes the partnership as a natural fit for a show that is, at its core, a story about movement – physical, cultural, and aspirational.

“As we travel across South Africa to uncover stories of innovation, creativity and success, we need partners that reflect the same spirit,” Stevens says. “Opel brings a strong sense of design, reliability and purpose to the journey, while also enhancing the way we visually tell these stories on screen.”

That last line is worth sitting with. In television, vehicles are never just vehicles — they are characters. The car a presenter climbs into, the silhouette pulling up to a sunset vista, the badge visible as someone steps out to meet a remarkable person doing remarkable things — these are visual storytelling choices. Opel’s design language, with its clean lines, distinctive Vizor front design philosophy, and unmistakably European aesthetic, will translate beautifully to screen.

The road is open. The engine is running. Top Billing and Opel — are going places.
