Releasing nationally in cinemas on Friday, 25 September 2026, Timmy The Kid is a heartfelt family comedy directed by acclaimed filmmaker Gray Hofmeyr and his son, Jonathan “Ziggy” Hofmeyr, bringing together a celebrated South African cast led by Kenneth Nkosi, alongside Lillian Dube, Celeste Ntuli and Sandile Mahlangu.

Launching over Heritage Day and into the September school holidays, the film has been strategically positioned as the family outing of the season, inviting audiences to celebrate South African storytelling together on the big screen. More than a comedy, Timmy The Kid is a celebration of family, belonging and the wonderfully unpredictable people who make every household unique. At its heart is a simple truth: every family has someone who keeps life interesting.

The film arrives at a time when South African audiences are increasingly looking for meaningful experiences they can share together. While streaming platforms continue to dominate everyday viewing, Timmy The Kid reminds audiences that some stories are best enjoyed with a full cinema laughing alongside you.

Gray Hofmeyr says the film was created with one ambition. “We’ve always believed that laughter brings people together. Timmy The Kid is about creating that feeling again, where parents, children and grandparents can all sit in the same cinema and leave smiling.”

Ziggy adds that the story reflects something every South African family will recognise.

“Every family has a Timmy. Someone who means well but somehow creates unforgettable moments. We wanted audiences to see themselves in these characters and walk away feeling a little lighter.”
