Gamers in Johannesburg’s West Rand are in for an action-packed weekend as Clearwater Mall prepares to host the 2026 MTN SHIFT Gaming Experience from 31 July to 2 August, bringing one of South Africa’s biggest competitive gaming tournaments to local players and fans.
As the country’s only nationwide mall-based gaming tournament series, MTN SHIFT continues to make esports more accessible by transforming shopping centres into competitive gaming arenas. Whether you’re an experienced competitor, a casual gamer or simply curious about the world of esports, the Clearwater event promises exciting tournaments, interactive gaming experiences and the chance to compete for major prizes.
Compete for a Spot in the National Finals
The road to victory begins with the EA FC 26™ Online Qualifier, taking place on 25 July. The top four players from the online competition will automatically secure their place in the Clearwater Mall Final.
Players who miss the online qualifier will still have the opportunity to qualify through the in-centre heats during the event weekend.
The Clearwater Mall champion will walk away with a R2,500 Clearwater Mall Gift Card and earn a coveted place in the MTN SHIFT National Football Final, where finalists will battle it out for a share of a R50,000 prize pool.
The runners-up won’t leave empty-handed either:
- 1st Place: R2,500 Clearwater Mall Gift Card + National Final qualification
- 2nd Place: R1,500 Clearwater Mall Gift Card
- 3rd Place: R1,000 Clearwater Mall Gift Card

MTN SHIFT has established itself as South Africa’s premier mall-based esports tournament, creating opportunities for players across the country to compete without travelling to major gaming conventions or dedicated esports arenas.
By bringing competitive gaming into shopping centres, the series introduces esports to wider audiences while creating a fun, family-friendly environment where spectators can experience tournament gaming up close.
Across the national tournament, competitors will battle for a total prize pool of R350,000, making MTN SHIFT one of the country’s most rewarding gaming competitions.
The tournament is presented by MTN in partnership with Hyprop, with all competitive gaming events professionally operated by ACGL.
