Maison Courvoisier, the world-renowned cognac house, has officially reopened its historic home in Jarnac, France, following a multi-year restoration. The project, led by the acclaimed French architecture and design firm Gilles & Boissier, blends nearly 200 years of Courvoisier’s rich heritage with modern touches.
The original building, inspired by the Louvre’s ‘Pavillon de Flore,’ was built in 1857 and sits proudly on the Charente River. Its revitalization not only honors the brand’s deep history but also emphasizes Courvoisier’s dedication to excellence, sustainability, and innovation in the cognac industry.
A Stunning Collaboration with Gilles & Boissier
The five-story building’s transformation involved a meticulous design collaboration between Courvoisier and Gilles & Boissier. The husband-and-wife duo, Patrick Gilles and Dorothée Boissier, took inspiration from Courvoisier’s history, creating a space that beautifully integrates nature, art, and cognac craftsmanship.
One standout feature is the stylish red bar lounge, designed as a “cabinet of curiosities,” telling the story of Courvoisier’s founder, Félix Courvoisier, and those who followed in his footsteps. Guests can explore various rooms, like the Cognac Tasting Room, which showcases breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards and landmarks through the art of François Houtin. The Dining Room, with its grand marble table and wood panels by artist Zoé Ouvrier, is another highlight, designed for exclusive cognac pairing dinners.
A Tribute to Courvoisier’s Legacy and Craftsmanship
Throughout the Maison, works of art from local and international artists reflect Courvoisier’s DNA, tying in themes of nature, sustainability, and craftsmanship. Pieces by French artists Zoé Ouvrier, François Houtin, and others showcase recyclable materials, intricate carvings, and tributes to Félix Courvoisier himself.
The newly restored Maison Courvoisier also features a unique bench carved from wood sourced directly from the cellars, a nod to the brand’s deep roots in the region.

Although access to the Maison itself will be limited, Courvoisier will offer exclusive tours and tastings throughout the year. The adjacent Visitor Center will be open year-round, allowing visitors to experience the essence of Courvoisier firsthand.
