Ronald Fenty, the father of global music icon and entrepreneur Rihanna, has passed away at the age of 70. PEOPLE has confirmed the news, which was initially reported by Barbados-based outlet Starcom Network.

Fenty reportedly died in Los Angeles following a brief illness. While his exact cause and date of death have not yet been publicly disclosed, sources say that family members were present with him around the time of his passing.

TMZ obtained photos showing Rihanna’s younger brother, Rajad Fenty, arriving at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on May 28. The outlet also reported that Rihanna was seen in the vehicle as well, suggesting the singer has remained close to her family during this difficult time.

Ronald Fenty was known to the public not only as Rihanna’s father but also as a figure she had a complicated relationship with over the years—one that had its ups and downs, including a reported reconciliation in more recent times.
