SEVEN Hotel Sandton completes R18 million refurbishment

SEVEN Hotel, Villas & Spa in Sandton has completed an R18 million refurbishment of all 61 of its rooms and villa suites. The five-star hotel, part of The Capital Hotels Group, is using the upgrade to officially relaunch the property.

The work covers every room category, from the Grand Luxe rooms to the Presidential Villa Suite. The relaunch is built around one design idea: a hotel stay that engages all of a guest’s senses.

Where SEVEN Hotel is in Sandton

The hotel is on Helen Road in Strathavon, a leafy pocket of Sandton set back from the main business strip. It is seven minutes from Grayston Drive and 2 km from the Sandton Gautrain Station.

The location puts guests within reach of the Sandton CBD while keeping the hotel itself away from traffic. That makes it workable for both business stays and weekend breaks.

Rooms, villa suites and facilities

SEVEN has 44 rooms and 17 villa suites. On-site facilities include Textures restaurant, Spa by Camelot and the Poison Ivy cognac and cigar lounge. The hotel is pet-friendly and also hosts conferences, events and weddings.

Marc Wachsberger, founder and CEO of The Capital Hotels Group, says the refurbishment was aimed at guests who spend their days in Sandton’s fast-paced business district.

“Sandton asks a great deal of the people who move through it,” says Wachsberger. “We reimagined SEVEN so that it gives something back. Whether you’re an executive in for two nights who needs to stay sharp, or a couple from down the road booking a villa suite twenty minutes from home, we want you to leave feeling composed and more like yourself than when you arrived. Composure is the new premium.”

How the refurbishment uses the five senses

The R18 million upgrade was planned around how guest spaces handle light, sound, texture, scent and taste.

  • Sight: Mature trees, greenery and sculptures in the garden replace views of city traffic.
  • Sound: Garden water features cover city noise during the day. The villa suites have improved acoustic insulation, which the hotel says keeps them quiet even at 06:00.
  • Smell: Garden scents carry through open doors in the morning. Spa by Camelot and the Poison Ivy lounge each have their own scent profile later in the day.
  • Taste and touch: Textures restaurant serves fresh, simple food, including outdoor dining, from 06:30 to 22:30. Touch is carried through in the redesigned Jacuzzi Villa Suites and the leather finishes and low lighting of the Poison Ivy lounge.

The sixth and seventh senses

The hotel adds two further “senses” to its concept. The sixth is instinct: the point where the physical design works well enough that guests stop noticing their surroundings and relax.

The seventh, which the whole property is built around, is a sense of self. SEVEN describes this as staying composed and being yourself in a city that usually expects people to perform. The hotel calls its approach “service over theatre”, with an emphasis on privacy in the villa layout.
